Outdoor lighting is one of those jobs that makes a bigger difference than people expect. It makes the back of the house usable at night, it makes the front safer to walk up, and it lifts the look of the place considerably.
The thing that matters most around here is specification. Anything mounted outside within a few kilometres of the coast is dealing with salt air year round, and standard fittings simply do not last. Corroded outdoor fittings are one of the most common faults we get called out to across Halls Head, Falcon, Singleton and the coastal suburbs.
Using properly rated coastal grade gear costs a little more upfront and saves you doing the job again in three years.

Common questions
Why do my outdoor lights keep corroding?
Salt in the air. Standard fittings that would last years inland can fail in two or three close to the coast. The terminals corrode, resistance builds and the fitting fails or trips the circuit. Coastal grade equipment fixes it long term.
Can lighting go in after the garden is done?
Usually yes. It is simpler if cabling goes in before paving and decking, so talk to me before that stage if you can, but established gardens can generally be worked around.
Do outdoor circuits need special protection?
Yes. Anything outdoors needs RCD protection and correctly rated weatherproof fittings, and there are stricter rules again near pools and water.
Is solar lighting worth it?
For low level garden lighting it can be fine. For anything you actually rely on, particularly security lighting, wired is far more dependable through winter.
