Emergency & Exit Lighting

Installation, six monthly testing and certification for commercial premises

If your building is required to have emergency and exit lighting, it also has to be tested and logged at set intervals under AS 2293. It is one of the easiest compliance obligations to let slide, because nothing appears to be wrong until an inspection or an actual emergency.

The testing is not just pressing a button. Fittings have to run on battery for the full discharge period to prove they will actually last, and the results need recording in a log that can be produced when asked.

We install, test and certify emergency and exit lighting for shops, offices and small commercial premises, and keep the paperwork so you are not scrambling for it.

What is involved

New installations

Exit signs and emergency luminaires positioned to suit the building and its exit paths.

Six monthly testing

Full discharge testing to AS 2293, not just a quick button press.

Battery replacement

Batteries degrade and are the usual reason a fitting fails its discharge test.

Fault repairs

Replacing failed fittings and correcting installations that were never right.

Compliance logbook

Results recorded properly so you have evidence when an inspector asks.

Common questions

How often does emergency lighting need testing?

Every six months under AS 2293, with a full discharge test. The results have to be recorded in a logbook kept at the premises.

What happens if it has never been tested?

You would not be the first. We test what is there, replace what fails, and start a proper log from that point. It is far better to sort it before an inspection than after.

Why do the fittings need to run on battery for so long?

Because that is the only way to prove the battery will actually last the required duration in a real emergency. A fitting can light up for two seconds on a dying battery and still fail when it matters.

Do small shops need it?

It depends on the building classification and size rather than the type of business. If you are unsure, we can look at what you have and tell you where you stand.
