Electrical work in Furnissdale

Furnissdale sits just east of the estuary and mixes older homes with newer builds on larger blocks. Ageing switchboards are common in the older places, and with the bigger blocks we do a lot of shed and outbuilding power out this way.

Private power poles and consumer mains

A lot of Furnissdale blocks run off a private pole, and on a rural property that pole belongs to you, not Western Power. That includes the first one. Western Power has been working through inspections and issuing replacement notices, with the cost falling to the owner. If you have had a notice, or the pole is leaning or gone soft at the base, we can quote the replacement and check the consumer mains running back to the house while we are there.

Shed, workshop and three phase power

The bigger blocks out here usually come with a shed worth powering properly. We run sub boards, lighting and power circuits out to sheds and workshops, and install three phase where there is a welder, compressor or machinery that needs it. On the longer runs the cable size matters, because undersized mains to a shed will drop voltage and make hard work of everything plugged into it.

Bore and irrigation pump circuits

Bores and reticulation are common on the Furnissdale blocks, and the pump circuit is where we see the most trouble. It wants weatherproof isolation, correct RCD protection and a circuit sized for the motor rather than whatever was handy at the time. If your pump is tripping the board, or the isolator has gone brittle in the sun, that is worth sorting before it lets go in the middle of summer.

Ageing switchboards in the older homes

Furnissdale mixes newer estate builds with places that have been here a long time, and the older ones often still run the original board. Ceramic fuses, no RCD protection, and an earth that has not been looked at in decades. A switchboard inspection tells you what you have got and what it takes to bring it up to the current standard.

Driveway, gate and yard lighting

Long driveways, entry gates and dark yards come with the territory on a bigger block. We install gate motors, intercoms, sensor lighting and yard lighting, and run it in cable rated for the distance, so the light at the far end works as well as the one at the house.
