Smoke Alarms
Mains powered alarms installed and replaced to meet WA requirements
Smoke alarms are the one thing on this list that is genuinely about life safety rather than convenience, and they are also the thing most often overlooked. In WA, mains powered alarms are required when a property is sold or rented.
The part people miss is that alarms expire. They have a ten year service life from the date stamped on the back, and after that they need replacing whether or not they still chirp when you press the button. Plenty of homes we visit have alarms well past their date.
Placement matters too. An alarm in the wrong spot either misses smoke or goes off every time you cook, which is how they end up disconnected.
What we do
Mains powered installation
Hardwired alarms with battery backup, meeting the requirement for sold and rented properties.
Replacing expired units
Checking date stamps and replacing anything past its ten year life.
Correct placement
Positioned to actually detect smoke early without nuisance alarms from the kitchen or bathroom.
Interconnected alarms
So one triggering sets off the rest, which matters in a larger or two storey home.
Testing existing alarms
Confirming what you have works and where you stand for compliance.
Rental compliance
Done alongside RCD work so a property meets requirements in one visit.
Common questions
How often do smoke alarms need replacing?
Every ten years from the manufacture date printed on the unit. It is not about whether it still beeps. The sensor degrades over time regardless.
Do we legally need mains powered alarms?
If the property is sold or rented in WA, yes. Battery only alarms do not meet the requirement.
Where should they go?
At minimum on each level and near sleeping areas. Away from kitchens and bathrooms to avoid nuisance triggering. We will work out the right positions for your layout.
Can you do this with a compliance check?
Yes, and it makes sense to. Smoke alarms and RCDs are the two things checked together for selling and renting.
