LED Lighting Upgrades

Swapping tired halogens and fluorescents for lighting that costs less to run and actually looks better

Halogen downlights are still in a lot of Mandurah homes and they are worth getting rid of. They draw roughly ten times the power of an equivalent LED, they run hot enough to be a genuine fire risk where they sit against insulation, and the transformers fail one after another as they age.

Converting a whole house usually pays for itself through the power bill, and the difference in light quality is immediately obvious. You also get proper control over colour temperature, which most people notice more than they expect.

Old fluorescent battens in laundries, garages and kitchens are the other easy win. They flicker, they hum, and the tubes are getting harder to buy.

What we upgrade

Halogen to LED downlights

Direct conversions throughout the house, including removing the old transformers properly.

Fluorescent battens

Kitchens, laundries, garages and workshops swapped for clean LED battens.

Colour temperature

Warm white through to daylight, chosen room by room rather than one setting everywhere.

Dimming

Dimmable fittings with dimmers that actually suit LED, so you get no flicker or buzz.

Feature and cabinet lighting

Strip lighting under cabinets, in alcoves and along joinery.

Outdoor and security

Covered on the outside lighting page, and often done at the same time.

Common questions

Will LED downlights fit my existing holes?

Usually. Most retrofit LEDs are made to suit common cut-out sizes, so in the majority of homes it is a straight swap with no patching. Odd sizes come up occasionally and we will let you know if yours is one.

How much will we actually save?

A 50 watt halogen replaced by a 7 watt LED is doing the same job for a fraction of the power. Across a house with twenty or thirty downlights running a few hours a night, it adds up quickly, and you stop replacing failed transformers.

Are old halogens really a fire risk?

They get very hot, and the risk is real where insulation has been pushed up against the fitting in the roof space. It is one of the more common things we find during a safety check on older homes.
